Our field site:

Our plots will be the triangular parcel (4.3acre/1.75ha) on the west side of College Avenue (Field "L") which was in wheat last year

The parcel is about 225m wide and 125m long

Overview of experiments:

There are three sets of germplasm that will be planted:

• Partial Sorghum Association Panel (SAP) [n = 269, 2 reps] list of seed
• NAM founder [n = 24, 2 reps] (List of NAM founders provided by Ram)
• NAM population [n = 2,500, 1 rep]
• Crosses from Sophie [n=20]

Seed preparation:

Seeds treated [with seed safener -- check this]

• SAP:
  • Seed from Tesfaye Tesso (Mostly from 2009, list of seed)
  • 2 packets X 100 seeds/packet
  • Treatments done
• NAM founders:
  • Seed from Ram Perumal (Hays)
  • 2 packets X 100 seeds/packet
  • Treatments done, Sophie has seed
• NAM population:
  • Seed from our winter nursery in Puerto Rico (PR1314)
  • 2 packets X 100 seeds/packet
  • Treatments done
  • Add fill packets for missing spots

Plot Plan:

• 4 row planter, 75cm spacing
• 3m plot length with 1 m alley
• SAP:
  • Two randomized complete blocks, one in NW and one in SE
• NAM founders:
  • Two randomized complete blocks, one in NW and one in SE
• NAM population:
  • Put each family (n=250) in its own bed
  • Put each line (1 through 2500)
  • Use fill around each bed
  • Use 6 foot alleys between each bed

  • Routine check for flowering date and scoring to commence on 08/02/2014 which marks the 45th days after emergence.
  • Selfing and bagging of the flowered plants to be carried out simultaneously in accordance to protocol.
